Description
Done as a Secret Santa gift for Lova, new owner of Windsong, at River Twine Holt ([link]) -- this is an illustration for Whitney's story "Unbound" ([link]), which was a recent pivotal moment for the character, symbolized by a change of hairstyle.
I liked the idea of setting out to do a night scene; I recently experimented with a new technique for that kind of lighting in another project that I will perhaps get to post in a few weeks. Some of this was drawn, inked and colored with a view towards it being night; and the rest of the lighting is done as a Photoshop effect. Credit for the steam goes to a nifty set of free steam brushes that I found ([link]). I'm not sure it's fully successful, though perhaps it works as a stylized version of "night" (as opposed to a realistic attempt). I feel like the hair's too bright, and she's too bright and warm.
So: Pentel Pocket-Brush pen inks, Copic Marker coloring, LOTS of effects in Photoshop.

Oh wow. I just went back to read the story - I'm happy that this was illustrated! Windsong really does look content here (and man do I want to be at a hotspring myself right now...)
I like the skin tone you used for the night - I think that looks great with all the other subtle colours in it. There's a lot of detail in that. I think it definitely works as a stylized night piece - I guess the hair is still a little -yellow- for a true night effect. But I like it; especially how the pieces she's holding up fall so gracefully.
